Finally I've received the copies of the board book I made for Creative Editions. The quality of the print is great, I'm very happy with that. You can see more illustrations from the book here.

Wild Animals pop-up book

 Here is the cover of a book I finished illustrating just a few months ago, published by Kingfisher. I don't know why but the cover that is on amazon is not the original cover and the artwork featured is not mine! I think that a provisonal cover has been used for promoting the book but my name shouldn't be there or at least they should update the image. Finally searching on the web -as I don't have a copy yet- I have found the book with its original cover.

Working on a pop-up illustration

Pop-illustrations have always been traditionally reserved for children's book. I often work on pop-up books and I'd like to show here how an illustration for pop-ups is created.

First I receive a white mock-up (a three-dimensional structure created by a paper engineer) or photos of the pops made up to understand how the parts work.

I have also a cutter guideline to see how many pieces of art work is required and what is the shape of each pieces.

The cutter guidelines can be adjusted a little to follow my drawing but it's best if I don't stray too far from the original shapes.

Once the pencil has been approved I go to colour and each piece will need bleed around it to allow the cutter to trim it out cleanly.

Purtroppo non esiste per ora un'edizione italiana del libro quindi è solo in vendita solo su Amazon.com e non si può trovare su Amazon Italia. Weird Bugs pop-up book

Here is the cover art I did for Fernleigh Books for the "Weird Bugs" title. I've also illustrated all the main pop-up illustrations of the book. I'll post them here soon. The book has been published by Kingfisher.

Questa è la copertina fatta per Fernleigh Books per il  libro pop-up intitolato "Weird Bugs". Ho illustrato anche tutte le illustrazioni pop-up all'interno del libro, le metterò presto sul blog. Il libro è uscito nel Regno Unito pubblicato da Kingfisher.

In Search of the Light: the book is arrived!

I now have the copies of "In search of the Light" book in hand! Just arrived today...I can't believe it! The official release date is May 2011. I've been working for over 15 years creating illustrations for children's books but this is my very first fiction book! This book is dedicated to my Dad. I wish he could held the book in his hands.

Wow! Ho appena ricevuto le prime copie del libro intitolato "In search of the Light" interamente illustrato da me. Che emozione! Lavoro da tanti anni come illustratrice di libri per bambini ma questo è in assoluto il mio primo libro fiction. Dedico il libro a mio Babbo. Avrei tanto voluto lo tenesse tra le sue mani.

Oxford University Press: Sketching

L'ultimo lavoro che ho fatto nel 2010 è stato per un editore con cui ho già collaborato altre volte, l'inglese Oxford University Press. "Wonderful Ecosystems" è il titolo del progetto su cui ho lavorato eseguendo una serie di piccole illustrazioni di animali e piante per la serie chiamata "Oxford Read and Discover".

The "Wonderful Ecosystems" work for the  Oxford University Press has been the last work I did before the end of 2010. I have already worked with OUP before doing some artworks for their Oxford Read and Discover series. This time I have made around 20 spot illustrations of animals and plants for some Food Chains. They show us what eats what in an ecosystem. Here are just some samples.

After the Earth Quake

Dopo un intervallo lunghissimo di non lavoro in cui non riuscivo a trovare la forza per tornare a disegnare mi sono messa sotto per finire il progetto che avevo interrotto mesi prima e finalmente le illustrazioni sono pronte! Il cliente che mi ha aspettato per così tanto tempo è una casa editrice inglese che si chiama Cat's Pyjamas. Hanno compreso il momento brutto che stavo passando e dimostrato una pazienza infinita. Hanno fatto slittare la data di consegna del mio lavoro e quindi rimandato la stampa del libro. Li ringrazio tanto per questo. Il libro si intitola "3D Wild Rainforest" ed è un libro per bambini con scene pop-up sull'habitat della foresta amazzonica. Aprendo la pagina una scena pop-up mostra un'ambientazione con animali e piante che disposti su livelli diversi danno un effetto tridimensionale alla scena. Qua sotto ci sono alcuni esempi delle illustrazioni. La parte bianca all'interno del disegno verrà ritagliata e da lì si vedranno gli altri livelli della scena pop-up.

My world fell apart when my dad passed away few months ago. I've stopped working and it took me a long time to function properly again. At the time I was working on a book entitled "3D Wild Rainforest" and I have to thank the publisher Cat's Pyjamas for having so much patience with me. They have given me such a long time for final deliver of artwork! Finally I've completed the illustrations and here are some samples. The book includes 3D pop-out spreads and each pop-out has 3 die cut layers to create a 3D scene. Below are the artwork for the top layers.
