Snow has fallen on the hills around Florence and here is the wonderful snowman that my lovely Matteo and Bianca have made! Bravi!

I've just received this photo of Matteo, he's in in Spain now. What a wonderful sun! I love the colours of this picture, I like the contrast of the yellow with the grey and black of the T-shirt. The colours balance is great.

Working on a pop-up illustration

Pop-illustrations have always been traditionally reserved for children's book. I often work on pop-up books and I'd like to show here how an illustration for pop-ups is created.

First I receive a white mock-up (a three-dimensional structure created by a paper engineer) or photos of the pops made up to understand how the parts work.

I have also a cutter guideline to see how many pieces of art work is required and what is the shape of each pieces.

The cutter guidelines can be adjusted a little to follow my drawing but it's best if I don't stray too far from the original shapes.

Once the pencil has been approved I go to colour and each piece will need bleed around it to allow the cutter to trim it out cleanly.

Saturday Ben Ten Fever

Ben Ten mania sabato sera al mandela forum. Io e Matteo in pole position con la partecipazione dei piccoli eroi alieni portati da casa e tirati fuori dalla borsa all'occorrenza. Mitica borsa in plastica verde traforata senza la quale non si poteva entrare a vedere lo spettacolo, anzi a causa della quale stavamo facendo tardi perchè "dimenticata" tatticamente in macchina (ci ho provato). Per ogni trasformazione di Ben Ten in scena un nuovo eroe alieno tirato fuori dalla borsa da Matteo e tenuto alto in mano rivolto verso il palco per dare potenza nuova all'alieno di turno. "Potenza, potenza.." Bravo Matteo!

Finale foto a sorpresa dal titolo "Diamante vs 2x2": Foto ricordo finale con...Diamante! sicuro Matteo? sì sì Diamante, ok Diamante, sei sicuro? sì sì voglio Diamante, ok Diamante. No ho cambiato voglio 2x2, sicuro Matteo? sì sì voglio 2x2! Ma finora hai detto Diamante! No voglio 2x2! OK foto con 2x2...vai...fatto! .....Ma io volevo Diamante (piagnucolando)..Per fortuna ho poi scoperto che il suo preferito è quello qua sotto con lui!




Matteo e 2X2!

  Per i non addetti ai lavori, da Wikipedia: 2x2 è un alieno dalla grande forza fisica, ha quattro braccia, quattro occhi, pelle corazzata e una muscolatura estremamente possente. La sua forza è tale che può creare delle onde d'urto semplicemente colpendo il terreno o sbattendo tutte le mani insieme. Le gambe muscolose di 2x2 gli permettono anche di saltare numerosi blocchi cittadini alla volta.

Matteo and I went to the theatre to see Ben 10 Live last night! Of course also the alien heroes of the Matteo Ben 10 collection went with us. The alien figures were inside a green jelly basket bag that Matteo kept on hand all time (see the picture) in order to check quickly which one of the alien heroes he had to pick when the Ben 10 “live” on the stage turned into alien creatures. So Matteo held the selected alien figure in the air turned to Ben 10 to help Ben to be more powerful. Well done Matteo! At the end Matteo had a picture with...hard decision..Diamond Head versus Four Arms...who will be the winner? Of course Four Arms the Matteo's favourite alien hero!
